Ben Shelton defeated Aslan Karatsev (7-5, 6-1) in the final of the ATP 500 event in Tokyo. The match lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes.
This is the American’s maiden ATP title. He’s become the new world No. 15 on October 23.
Shelton is one of the nominees for the ATP’s ‘Breakthrough of the year” award in 2023. In his first fully professional season, he previously managed to reach the quarterfinals in the Australian Open and the semis at the US Open. He’s now one of the contenders for the spot at the ATP Finals event.
