Ben Shelton secures his spot in the Shanghai ATP 1000 event quartefinals with a win over World No. 4 Jannik Sinner (2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)). The players went a 2 hours 32 minutes distance to decide the winner. This is the biggest win in the 21-year-old’s career.
This is the second time Shelton upsets a top-5 opponent. First time happened at the Cincinnati Masters last year, where Ben stunned the World No. 5 Casper Ruud
The young American is one of the nominees for the “ATP breakthrough of the year” award. During his first full professional season, he managed to reach the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the semis at the US Open.
Shelton will now face his compatriot Sebastian Korda for the spot in the semifinals.
