The La Habra mayor’s gavel was passed from Rose Espinoza to Tim Shaw at last week’s city council meeting. The members of the city council unanimously voted Shaw to his second time as mayor. Espinoza was recognized by community, county and state officials for her work the past year as mayor. During her time as Mayor, the city saw great change. The opening of the new City Hall Building, the approval of many construction projects, the annexation of the remaining county islands and the continued balancing of the city’s budget. Shaw noted that one of his first things to do as mayor is to start the repaving project of Lambert Road. The statement brought applause from those gathered in the council chambers. He noted that east Lambert will have to wait until the Beckman commercial project is completed in the City of Fullerton. Shaw said that he is hoping to work with the state and county to help develop a re-pavement plan for the city’s arterial roads, which include Harbor, Beach, Whittier and La Habra Boulevards. He added that he would look to continue, and finish, the repaving project for the city’s alleys. He wants to make sure the newly annexed areas are transitioned into the city seamlessly. And he wants to start working with the community on developing Vista Grande Park into a space that’s useful for everyone and continue with the development of the bike trail. Shaw said that he is looking forward to helping lead the city in the next year.
