Lady Raiders get past Troy to hold on to second spot in league

A six run sixth inning sealed a huge win for the for the Lady Raiders after they blew out Troy 12-5 in their final Freeway League softball game on Wednesday.

Troy managed an early lead after a homerun was blasted to give the Warriors a 2-1 start.

Sonora managed to catch up the game in the third inning after two runs in the top of the third inning.

The Raiders locked in their lead in the top of the fourth inning after Bella Mauries launched a homerun into left field, bringing in three extra runs for Sonora.

Bats were hot in the sixth inning however, as the Raiders drove in six runs with Gaige Garcia edging out the final single of the match.

Sonora had no difficulty connecting their bats with the tosses by Troy, as the Raiders collectively earned 18 hits off of their 38 at bats with Hope Warren and Mauries leading the team with three RBI’s each.

Mauries also managed to get on base in all five of her at-bats, while also contributing two runs to give Sonora a strong lead.

The pitching staff also dominated, and only allowed three earned runs, and six hits despite Haylee Enriquez and  Garcia tossing 106 pitches throughout the course of the game.

The win over Troy leveled up Sonora to the No. 2 seed in the Freeway League, with an overall league record of 7-3.  Next up for the Lady Raiders is the first round of CIF.  Pairings will be announced Monday.
